Loaned to Troyes last season, Issa Kaboré impressed during his time in France for both club and country, as he starred for Burkina Faso during the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Manchester City player returned to the Etihad club following the end of the campaign, and few expected him to stick around.
That’s why the news of another loan to Marseille wasn’t met with a ton of surprise, as the right-back would continue to get game time in France.
What was perhaps a bit more of an eyebrow raiser was the decision from Manchester City to accept the inclusion of an option to buy in the deal, meaning Marseille could make the move permanent at anytime this season.
In fact, it appears that Kaboré has no intention of returning to play under Pep Guardiola, as he made clear during his presentation as a new member of the Ligue 1 club on Monday.
He said, relayed by La Provence: “The idea is to play and to stay at Marseille. It’s not to return to Manchester City. OM are a great club that are going to bring a lot to me. We discussed a bit with Charles (Kaboré) before my transfer. It counted but not that much.
“It was a dream to come here and I’m ready to give my best. On the left or on the right, it’s the same thing. I can play on both sides.”
This means that Manchester City now know what to expect, and a good season from Kaboré at Marseille could see them make some money from the deal.
