Illan Meslier wants to leave Leeds United this summer, with Marseille interested in a deal for him as they spend big this summer.
That’s according to La Provence, who say Marseille are interested in the Leeds United goalkeeper and hoping for a discount on any deal with Leeds.
The newspaper explains that Marseille are active in their efforts to strengthen their goalkeeping department, with it still unclear whether Pau Lopez will remain at the French club.
At the moment it appears that he will be moving on and Meslier could be the number on target to replace him, albeit there is an acceptance that any transfer for him will be a very expensive one.
He’s enthusiastic about the potential transfer and continuing his career in the south of France after five years at Leeds.
His current contract at Elland Road runs until 2026 but he ‘wants to leave’ after they failed to get back into the Premier League last season.
There is a ‘fairly high release clause’ written into that contract but Marseille believe a transfer can be negotiated at a lower price, although no figure has been leaked at the moment.
Either way, Meslier’s desire to leave opens the door to a deal and it is being actively explored as Marseille spend big for new manager Roberto de Zerbi.
