The Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United situation isn’t really worthy of the saga label yet but it does feel a little boring for what would otherwise be a very interesting transfer.
German newspaper Bild appear to be republishing the same article every few hours with extra claims like ‘exciting news’ thrown in, and yet it all seems to be the same.
Bayern Munich are looking for around €50m plus bonuses, and Manchester United would want it to be closer to €50m straight, perhaps with that figure even including bonuses.
There doesn’t appear to be any annoyance on either side of the negotiations and there’s a feeling this can all be sorted out when the clubs want to.
The lack of rush will likely be down to De Ligt’s involvement in Euro 2024. Now that involvement is over he’ll be set for a holiday, so it’s either a case of sorting the move out now, before he goes, or when he returns.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reports the defender wants to join Manchester United immediately, presumably before he goes away.
He says the transfer is in progress, but the Red Devils are yet to make their ‘final top offer’.
