Back in 2019, Marcus Edwards left Tottenham Hotspur to go and play, and progress, in Portugal.
The winger, who spent years in Spurs’ academy, first went to Vitória Guimarães, and then ended up at Sporting, where he’s just won the league.
Now as Correio da Manhã today features many stories about the interest from Premier League clubs in players from Lions, Eagles and Dragons, there’s an interesting mention of Edwards and Tottenham.
The newspaper highlights that the player ‘wants to go home’. It’s said that he’s ‘in the sights’ of Spurs and has ‘already expressed his desire’ for a return.
This isn’t the first time that Edwards has been linked to Tottenham. And even though those rumours had been quiet for a while, the Portuguese media always pointed out that the Englishman drew attention from Premier League clubs and would fancy a return to his home country.
The big advantage Tottenham have is that they get 35% from his future transfer, effectively giving them a hefty discount.
Edwards, who had six goals and nine assists for the Lions this season, is valued by Transfermarkt at €25m.
