Arsenal are one of the clubs to have been linked most with Viktor Gyokeres this season, with the Gunners thought to be looking for a new striker and being ready to let Gabriel Jesus leave the club.
Reports from Brazil on Thursday made it clear those Jesus claims are true, and that the player’s agent is aware of the situation. Palmeiras want to take him home, although that’s seen as a near impossible deal to pull off.
Meanwhile, the Italian media are linking Arsenal with Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee on a daily basis, and this week those claims have got a little more concrete.
Gyokeres would likely be a bit more expensive, especially after his exploits in his first season with Sporting. The striker has scored an incredible 40 goals and assisted a further 15 in 46 matches this season.
That includes four goals over his past two games, helping Sporting to the verge of picking up the Portuguese title.
Zirkzee has found the back of the net 12 times and has seven assists.
Gyokeres’ last league match was the crucial game against FC Porto, and playing with a niggle, the Sweden international came on in the second half with his side 2-0 down… and naturally scored two goals to clinch the draw.
Today’s edition of Correio da Manhã reports Arsenal remain keen, along with Liverpool, PSG and Atletico Madrid. Sporting want to keep him for another season, especially with it looking like manager Ruben Amorim may now stay, and would therefore refer interested parties to the striker’s €100m release clause.
According to Correio da Manhã, Gyokeres is absolutely determined to finish the season well and ‘force’ Arsenal or another big club to meet that clause.
