L’Equipe back up claims Manuel Ugarte has agreed personal terms with Manchester United, and the French newspaper say the midfielder is ‘on the verge’ of leaving PSG for the Premier League side.
Manchester United have been busy since the end of Euro 2024, securing the arrivals of both Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. They’re looking to quickly bring a midfielder in and for several weeks it’s been Ugarte pushed forward the most.
The Uruguay international moved from Sporting in the summer 2023 window, costing PSG around €60m. He certainly wasn’t a disaster at the Ligue 1 side but didn’t have the impact desired and is expendable for Luis Enrique.
Reports from Uruguay have said Manchester United are set to make an official offer, and L’Equipe now share the levels which may be needed to convince PSG.
According to their latest report, the French club don’t want to make a loss on the €60m they sent to Sporting and are even asking for €70m.
L’Equipe say that’s ‘A sum that the Mancunians would not be ready to invest immediately. The English leaders are considering a different proposal structure, in particular a loan with an option to buy.’
Should that be a loan with an option to buy at €60-70m then that’s not so bad because options mean little. If it’s those figures and an obligation to buy then it’s an overpriced deal, so this one may need some fine-tuning.
