David Luiz has spent the summer trying to find a new club after leaving Arsenal following the expiry of his contract with the London side.

The Brazilian hasn’t been in a huge hurry, and he’s been linked with a return to Benfica, as well as multiple clubs in Italy. A return to Brazil has been talked about more seriously in recent weeks, and it looks like going back to South America is the plan the defender is taking.

Globo Esporte say Luiz is on the verge of joining Flamengo, where he’ll have to take a big cut on what he was being paid at Arsenal. An agreement was reached between the parties involved on Friday and now only signatures are missing to make the move official.

Luiz is then expected to be presented by Flamengo on Monday, adding to the club’s star-studded squad.

After his Arsenal exit, Luiz had been tempted to stay in European football, however, that became less likely when the UEFA cut-off, so players can be registered for European competitions, went by without a destination being found.
