West Ham United have identified Ajax’s Edson Álvarez as a target to bolster their midfield.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say the 25-year-old has ‘verbally agreed’ to join the Hammers on a five-year deal.
The Mexico international is now waiting for West Ham to find an agreement with the Dutch club to arrive in London.
That’s likely to be done soon because the report states David Moyes’ side verbally made a first offer of around €30m on Saturday morning.
It’s said Ajax sporting director Sven Mislintat and West Ham technical director Tim Steidten will start negotiating for Álvarez’s transfer after the English club table a written offer later today.
De Telegraaf further state the deal to take the player to West Ham is expected to be concluded soon. The Eredivisie side had agreed to sell the Mexican, provided there’s an offer close to their demands.
It’s claimed Ajax would need €35m plus bonuses to reach €40m, meaning an additional effort from West Ham would help them find an agreement quickly.
