PSV Eindhoven star Olivier Boscagli has been urged to use Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo as an example and snub Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. That’s according to journalist Marco Timmer, writing in his column for Voetbal International, relayed by PSV Fans.
On Tuesday, Eindhovens Dagblad stated the defender absolutely wants to join Brighton and that there’s ‘no way back’ for him at PSV.
Boscagli has been at PSV since 2019 and during his time at the club he played alongside Gakpo.
The Netherlands international moved to Liverpool in January 2023, after previously failing to secure an exit from the Eredivisie side. Timmer says the forward secured an agreement with PSV to receive part of the fee from his sale.
Boscagli has a year left on his deal and hasn’t accepted a renewal offer. He wants to join Brighton before the window closes, but their offer isn’t good enough for the Dutch club.
Timmer has advised him to take the Liverpool player as an example and sign a new deal with advantageous terms.
“It’s s quite conceivable that the Frenchman will then receive a nice percentage of the future transfer fee. This is also what happened with Cody Gakpo, for example,” he said.
“Boscagli doesn’t want this, because he’ll be a free agent at the end of this season, then he is taking a big risk.
“After all, if he gets seriously injured, he has nothing. That is something that Boscagli will certainly think carefully about. After all, he was out for a whole year before last season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
“When a transfer doesn’t go ahead, the footballer is asked to have patience and loyalty for one season, which will also be rewarded. The same loyalty that PSV had when the Frenchman was sidelined injured, and the club duly paid his salary.”
