Despite not being the most regular player for Nottingham Forest, Orel Mangala was called up by Domenico Tedesco for the last international break to represent Belgium.
The 25-year-old started the friendly against Germany, which ended 3-2 in favour of the Belgians, and impressed so much that he earned a lot of praise in his home country.
That has led to questions as to why he isn’t playing as much for Nottingham Forest, who are currently flighting against relegation in the Premier League, and Walfoot in Belgium look at the situation of a few players currently in the relegation battle in England, musing what their future could look like.
When it comes to Mangala, they point out that since he is part of Tedesco’s plans going forward, relegation to the Championship would mean the player would need to ‘find himself a club in the elite at all costs’.
Otherwise, he could see his progression ‘stopped immediately’, as it’s unlikely that the national team manager would pick him if he stayed in England’s second-tier.
Something for both Nottingham Forest and the player to think about going forward.
