AC Milan have an urgent need to sign at least one centre-back in the winter market and their target list includes Aston Villa’s Clément Lenglet.
On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the 28-year-old is the main target for the Serie A side. It was also stated the Rossoneri believe they can overcome the Villans’ resistance and sign him next month.
Aston Villa signed the defender on loan from Barcelona in the summer and earlier claims had stated the La Liga side are in favour of letting him move to the San Siro.
Sportitalia say the Italian club had thought about the Frenchman to bolster their defence, but they now have ‘little hope’ of a deal.
It’s claimed the former Sevilla man is ‘unlikely to leave’ Villa Park because Barcelona have decided to allow him continue at Aston Villa until the end of this season.
Lenglet has made seven appearances this season and that includes two Premier League starts [against Sheffield United and Manchester United]. There’s a belief he could have more prominence in the coming months.
Sportitlia journalist Gianluigi Longari took to X, formerly Twitter, to add that Aston Villa haven’t expressed an intention to cut short Lenglet’s loan stay in January.
