Three days ago, we covered some claims about Leeds United pushing hard to try and sign SC Freiburg’s Roland Sallai for around €9m.
It was also reported the Hungary international is keen on making a switch to Elland Road.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the latest on the Whites’ pursuit of the forward. He claims to have gathered information from ‘sources’ about Sallai’s future.
They have confirmed to him that Leeds are ‘pessimistic’ of acquiring the 27-year-old’s signature on deadline day.
That’s because Daniel Farke’s side ‘haven’t been able’ to agree a deal with the Bundesliga side for the attacker. Therefore, ‘an unlikely move’. This means Sallai won’t be arriving at Leeds, despite showing firm desire to join them.
The Hungarian has less than a year left on his contract. If Freiburg fail to find a new club for him soon, they could risk losing him as a free agent at the end of this season.
Sallai joined Freiburg from Greek side APOEL FC in 2018. He managed eight goals and four assists from 37 games last season and has made one appearance this season.
