Nottingham Forest’s chase for Botafogo striker Matheus Nascimento has really become a big topic in the Brazilian media in the past few days.
It had been claimed the Reds improved their bid to €10m and that was accepted by the Rio de Janeiro side, even though the player hadn’t said yes to the move yet. Club president John Textor denied having accepted the bid, but it always seemed like there was a lot of truth in the report.
Well, it turns out that as SBT journalist Lucas Pedrosa now features an update on the situation, it’s reiterated that Botafogo accepted Nottingham Forest’s bid, but it’s claimed that Matheus Nascimento turned down the move.
The report explains that the deal probably won’t happen, as the striker didn’t take the offer and ‘wants to stay’ at the Brazilian club for longer.
That should pretty much mean the end of this saga, because according to Pedrosa, Nottingham Forest should now turn their attentions to other targets, also from Brazil.
Botafogo currently have a very good team standing on top of the table, 12 points clear by the 15th fixture, and as they can win their first major title in 28 years. That could be a reason for the youngster to choose to stay there.
