On Wednesday, it was reported that Norwich had made a €16.5m bid for FC Lorient’s Alexis Claude-Maurice, and the ball was said to be in the player’s court regarding the transfer.
This was reported by Le Télégramme, with the attacking midfielder prioritising a club with a good sporting project and who would play him regularly.
Well, according to Soccer Link, the 21-year-old has decided not to move to Carrow Road, as he wasn’t ‘convinced’ by the project on offer.
That was always the worry, as Norwich paying that amount of money for a player would have almost guaranteed him a starting spot, but the potential prospect of fighting against relegation might not have been too enticing for the youngster.
Other clubs have now ‘recently positioned themselves’ for the midfielder, with previous reports suggesting that West Ham had also made a bid of €15m for the player.
Claude-Maurice has already started his season, playing in Lorient’s first game of the campaign against Paris FC, picking up an assist.
However, he was not in the squad to face SM Caen on August 5th, perhaps as a precaution ahead of a potential departure.
