Manchester City’s Eric García and Lyon’s Memphis Depay were the two priority targets for Ronald Koeman, but Barcelona finished the transfer window without signing either of them.
On October 5th, Mundo Deportivo explained the La Liga side made a ‘new offer’ of €5m fixed fee plus €10m in bonuses, but the proposal didn’t convince the Citizens.
This was after the Catalan club saw their first offer worth €10m being turned down by Pep Guardiola’s side.
Today’s edition of Mundo explains Barca made another offer of €10m fixed fee plus an additional €8m in bonuses to sign the centre-back.
The Etihad club ‘did not give in’ in any case and continued to demand €20m for the Spain international.
Another Catalan newspaper Sport also stress the €18m worth offer made by Ronald Koeman’s side for the City player.
García has made it to Luis Enrqiue’s Spain squad for October’s international break and was following the deadline day negotiations between the two clubs from the national team’s camp.
According to Sport, the 19-year-old ‘tried until the last minute’ to convince the leaders of the Premier League side to sanction his move to Barcelona.
However, City didn’t give in as they continued to demand €20m fixed fee for a player whose contract will expire next summer.
Barca can now either try to sign García for a lower fee in January or take him on a free transfer after the end of this season.
