Newcastle United are currently in La Manga going through their pre-season work. The Magpies are doing so without Eddie Howe and his coaching staff after the manager parted ways.
That’s a big change for the Premier League club given Howe had been in place since 2021. The 48-year-old was previously at Bournemouth and there’s been little indication of how he sees his future after a break.
Matthias Jaissle will be Newcastle United’s new manager. As explained in Saudi Arabia this week, the Magpies will be paying around €13m to Al-Ahli. This comes after Jaissle terminated his contract.
All change at Newcastle United
The new manager’s squad will look very different from last season. Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona in one of the biggest early window deals.
Sandro Tonali then departed for Tottenham Hotspur, attracted by Roberto De Zerbi. Joining the latter in north London will be Bruno Guimarães, unless his move to Arsenal collapses at the final hurdle.
Bazoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur have arrived for outfield. Ewen Jaouen has been the one goalkeeper arrival… so far.
€30m clause… but not really
The Portuguese media have been out ahead of everyone on Lukáš Horníček to Newcastle United. It was explained days ago that the transfer would be happening and completion was imminent.
Hull City had been keen earlier in July, however, they didn’t want to pay the €30m SC Braga wanted. That’s the value of the goalkeeper’s release clause.
The Magpies are paying that amount but haven’t actually triggered the clause. Instead, there’s been negotiations to spread the payments. Essentially, it’s being treated as €30m straight transfer rather than a clause activation.
Flying into La Manga
Record report Lukáš Horníček has already flown to La Manga to meet up with Newcastle United. The 24-year-old will go through his medical tests today, and there’s no expectation of any issues.
A Bola state the Premier League club and Braga have already closed the deal. There’s nothing else which needs to be negotiated. Personal terms are also in place between the Magpies and their new stopper.
Horníček is leaving Braga through the front door and with the best of wishes. With so many modern transfers turning into mini-wars, this is one which is amicable and pleases all involved.
