Aston Villa won’t be signing Hákon Valdimarsson as the IF Elfsborg goalkeeper is about to complete a move to Brentford.
Recent claims have talked about the Villans’ interest in the 22-year-old. This was backed up by the stopper himself last Friday, who was thrilled with interest from Aston Villa, who he described as a ‘big club’.
Brentford are the ones who have moved forward for the transfer, according to Expressen.
It’s claimed the Swedish club and the Bees have reached an agreement for a deal around SEK 40m [€3.5m], making him the record sale for an Allsvenskan [Swedish league] goalkeeper.
He was linked to several other clubs, including Aston Villa, Anderlecht, KRC Genk and FC Copenhagen. However, it’s Thomas Frank’s side who have now won the battle.
According to Expressen, the Iceland international is already travelling to England, to carry out transfer formalities, including medical tests with Brentford.
This operation is set to go through soon.
Elfsborg took Valdimarsson from Icelandic side Íþróttafélagið Grótta in 2021. The stopper has made 49 appearances for them, and has kept 21 clean sheets and conceded 40 goals in the process.
Reports in Sweden made it clear the player wanted a reasonable chance of minutes, and that’s probably likelier at Brentford than Aston Villa.
