On August 5th, we carried a report from Levante-EMV, who explained Birmingham City are set to sign Fran Villalba on a free transfer.

It was also explained that Valencia have inserted several clauses as part of the deal, that would help them to re-sign the midfielder in the future or earn money from his future sale.

Another Spanish newspaper, AS, now claims the 21-year-old will travel to England to undergo his medical examination with the Championship side and is expected to sign a contract with the Blues in the ‘next few hours’.

Until the last minute, Villalba was tempted to join second division Spanish side, UD Almería.

However, he will sign for Birmingham City in order to keep to the word he gave to the English club’s caretaker coach, Pep Clotet.

Clotet wants Villalba to complete his transfer quickly as he hopes to have the player available for his side’s next clash against Bristol City.
