Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi has been left out of training today as he continues to be linked with a move to Everton.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover the situation and Mönchengladbach’s insistence there is nothing behind his absence.
Elvedi has been linked with a move away from the German club all summer and appeared to be close to a transfer to Wolves at one point, but their financial situation brought that to a halt.
It now appears to be Everton who are at the front of the queue for his signature and a report earlier today covered their interest, making it clear that a bid had not been made but Elvedi could go for €5m.
Kicker now explain that the player, who is ‘willing to emigrate’ this summer, was absent from training today.
His absence was noted and ‘immediately caused some speculation’ as he underwent an individual training regime and then missed out the main session.
Mönchengladbach have since played down the reports, insisting that it was simply a case of “load control”. In other words, they were concerned with overloading the defender and that’s why he wasn’t included.
Whether he actually features at the weekend remains to be seen as the player’s wish to move on remains and Everton are yet to make contact over a move.
With him keen to go and them keen to sell to raise funds, though, it’s far likelier that the German club have decided not to risk Elvedi this week with the transfer deadline looming.
That would certainly make sense, even if the Toffees are yet to be in contact about potentially taking him to Goodison Park.
