Ajax striker Brian Brobbey needs to move to the Premier League, join Brighton and Hove Albion specifically, and become “a great player again”.
That’s according to Rafael van der Vaart, whose comments on the striker to Rondo on Ziggo Sport have been relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
Brobbey is likely to be on the sell list at Ajax this summer after a disappointing season in which he’s managed just four league goals in 28 appearances and featured in just 52% of the available minutes in the Eredivisie.
It’s been a far cry from the 18 goals and nine assists he managed in 30 games in the league last season or even the 13 and three he managed in 32 the year before that.
Ajax appear to have had enough and there is a feeling the 23-year-old will be moved on as their rebuild continues this summer. Brobbey was already linked with a move away in the January transfer window, when West Ham appeared to be keen.
That moved never happened, though, despite Brobbey flying to London late in the window in an apparent effort to push things over the line.
Van der Vaart would like to see him in England at some point but believes the better club for him would Brighton.
“I know for sure that if he goes abroad, he will become a great player again,” he said.
“He just has to leave Ajax. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but that connection is no longer there. He is probably also playing against himself a bit. If you leave the Netherlands, there is also less attention for you.
“I would like to see him in England. Brighton & Hove Albion for example. I really still believe in him.”
