Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe goes through each Ligue 1 club and gives them a mark out of 20 for their summer transfer business.
When it comes to Lyon, the French newspaper dishes out a 12. That doesn’t mean L’Equipe believe Jean-Michel Aulas has done poorly for his club this summer, it’s just they’re being rather tough with the grades.
And, so much depends on Moussa Dembele that it’s hard to judge without knowing whether the move from Celtic will work out or not.
Mariano Diaz scored 18 Ligue 1 goals last season and left for Real Madrid last week for a fee over €30m.
Dembele then arrived from Celtic, after falling out with Brendan Rodgers and pretty much everyone else, for around two thirds of that.
L’Equipe state Dembele simply needs to score 15 goals this season, that’s what he’s been signed for. If the 22 year old doesn’t manage it then it’s not going to have worked out and therefore Lyon’s transfer business will largely have been a failure.
Whilst some Celtic fans may hope it all goes pear-shaped, should the striker do well then it can only help the Scottish Premiership club get better fees in the future.
