Go Ahead Eagles star Milan Smit is set to complete a move to Stoke City in the winter market.

That’s according to ESPN NL and De Telegraaf. The two major Dutch outlets cover the latest on the 22-year-old’s impending move to Stoke City.

The Championship side are currently seventh in the table, two points behind sixth placed Preston North End, with a game in hand.

The second division English club will soon improve Mark Robins’ attack with the addition of Smit.

According to ESPN NL, Stoke City have agreed a €5.5m deal with the Eredivisie side for the Dutchman. They add ‘only the medical is blocking’ him from joining the Potters.

De Telegraaf also report Robins’ side and Go Ahead Eagles have agreed a €5.5m fee for Smit’s transfer.

The frontman will undergo his Stoke City medical on Wednesday. If there are no issues with these tests, he will sign a contract with them until 2029.

The Dutch club signed Smit from SC Cambuur in August 2024. According to the report, they invested €800,000 on him 18 months ago and will now make a huge profit from his impending sale.

He’s scored 13 goals and contributed five assists from 54 matches for Go Ahead Eagles so far. That tally includes 10 goals and two assists from 28 games this season and this would have convinced the Championship club side to bet on him.

Stoke City were linked with a number of forwards in the weeks leading to the January transfer window. One of those was Mjällby AIF’s Abdoulie Manneh, although that turned into a saga the club were right to walk away from.

Both ESPN NL and De Telegraaf report the €5.5m deal agreed with Stoke City means Milan Smit will be a new record sale. Go Ahead Eagles collected €4.5m from Oliver Antman’s sale to Rangers last August. This is their current club-record sale.
