Chelsea have made advances over a move for Brighton & Hove Albion’s João Pedro this summer. Newcastle United also had serious interest in the striker, but the Blues have managed to get ahead in the transfer race.
On June 16th, UOL stated Chelsea aren’t hijacking Newcastle’s bid for the 23-year-old as they have been negotiating since May.
Chelsea are in the US at the Club World Cup and face Palmeiras in the quarterfinals on Friday. A fresh report from UOL states the west London club want to have the Brighton player in their squad for that upcoming fixture.
Journalist Bruno Andrade provides an update on the Brazil international’s impending move from Brighton to Chelsea. He states Pedro is already in the US to undergo medical tests with Chelsea.
According to Andrade, Enzo Maresca’s side are in a ‘hurry to resolve all the bureaucratic aspects of the transfer’ as they want to register the Brighton attacker for Friday’s clash against Palmeiras. He will sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
On Sunday, AS reported the medical and official announcement is pending for Pedro to join Chelsea. They also stated he’ll fly to the US this week to finalise the transfer.
Eduardo Burgos covered AS’ report, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update. He claims Chelsea could complete the operation on Tuesday if there’s no setback.
According to Burgos, the former Watford man will carry out his Chelsea medical in Miami today.
