Wylan Cyprien is of interest to Aston Villa, according to claims from both England and France.

FootMercato have reported a €17.5m offer from the Premier League club to Nice for the midfielder. It was explained Villa are convinced by the 25-year-old’s potential, and the bid was described as a ‘great’ proposal for the Ligue 1 side.

At the time of the report, late on Friday evening, it wasn’t known whether the offer would be accepted or not.

Le10 Sport have the situation differently. They state Nice haven’t confirmed the existence of an offer from Aston Villa, presumably when asked about it, and Cyprien doesn’t prioritise the move anyway.

That’s because he’s keen on a switch to Bordeaux instead, which would be slightly unusual given the wages are likely higher in Birmingham. Le10 don’t present this decision as being against Villa, but more in favour of Bordeaux, with the player, for whatever reason, being very keen on that move.

Bordeaux don’t yet have an agreement with Nice, and until that happens everything is open. Should the French switch fail then Aston Villa will have a clearer route.

Cyprien’s contract with Nice lasts until June 2021, putting the club under some pressure.
