Arnaut Danjuma has shared his delight at his move to Girona, after something of a miserable year on loan at Everton.
Diari di Girona cover comments from the forward today after he arrived on loan from Villarreal at the end of the transfer window.
The Dutch forward had returned to the Spanish club from a loan deal at Everton last season, which did not work out as anyone had hoped.
He made the move to Goodison Park last summer despite the controversy in January 2023, when he had been on the verge of moving to Everton before making a shocking last-minute turn and moving to Tottenham instead.
It had been hoped he would add fire power and creativity to the Blues forward line but instead found himself spending a season on the bench, managing just 20 appearances, 929 minutes and two goals in total.
It proved to be a miserable year for the Dutchman, who was seemingly unable to convince Everton manager Sean Dyche despite the Blues’ struggles in front of goal.
Thus, he returned to Villarreal and had started well in what was a last chance for him at the club but was quickly shipped off to Girona at the end of the window.
They can offer him Champions League football once again and he’s more than happy with the move, particularly after his time at Everton.
“(I can) not only play, but also compete against the greats of the Champions League,” he said.
“I love it. I come here because the manager has told me very good things and because I like the way the club plays. I saw how he played last year, and I like the project. The Champions League helps, but it’s not the only factor that made me decide.
“The Girona is a very special club because it is not the biggest in the world, but it is also a family style. The coach and the players not only want to play, but also to compete.
“It’s been a long time since I played the last match with Holland. When I got here, it was like coming home because Van de Beek and Blind were there. They told me that the club was very good for me also because of the family aspect.”
