Earlier this month, Fulham’s Raúl Jiménez returned to the Mexico squad for the first time in close to a year. He scored a goal and registered an assist in El Tri’s 2-0 friendly win over USA.
The striker was able to achieve this due to his impressive performances for the Premier League side this season. He has four goals and an assist from eight league games and scored once in the EFL Cup.
Jiménez joined Marco Silva’s side in the summer of 2023 and scored seven goals in all competitions last season. He’s regained his confidence and form, which has allowed him to perform well on the pitch for Fulham.
The 33-year-old gave an interview to Claro Sports, where he has expressed his delight to have been shining for the London club.
“The truth is, it leaves me with a great taste in my mouth knowing that everything I’ve been through is paying off. In the end it’s that resilience, never giving up and knowing that you can do it,” he said.
The Mexico international has thanked Fulham for having faith in him while he was going through a rough period. He has credited Marco Silva’s side for helping him regain his confidence.
“I think I was always aware that it was difficult. I mean, I felt good, I felt I was doing well, that I was doing well,” Jiménez explained.
“But yes, there was always that bittersweet taste in my mouth, wasn’t there? Of knowing that, ok, yes, but there’s still a little bit missing. And, well, in the end, I want to thank Fulham, who gave me the confidence that maybe I needed to feel like an important player again.”
During the former Benfica man’s struggles, he was subject to criticism, both in England and Mexico. The player has now sent a clear message to his critics.
“Have I been undervalued? By whom? I mean, whoever I want to be valued by, values me for what I am. Others may like it or not, but I’m doing my job, I’m doing what I have to do,” he added.
“There will always be those who value you well or badly. You simply know what you are doing and be, well, not content, but satisfied with what you are working on.”
