One of the more surprising Tottenham Hotspur links of the January window was Sofyan Amrabat.
Media close to Fiorentina reported Spurs were making efforts to sign the midfielder, in a move which would likely have started as a loan and then had a chance to make the transfer permanent.
The link wasn’t an obvious to make, so it appeared there was actually something in the claims, and it was made clear Antonio Conte had identified Amrabat and believed the Fiorentina player could be the answer to some of his problems with Spurs.
Fiorentina.it explain Amrabat refused Cagliari and Genoa moves in the winter market, but it was a different story with Tottenham. A switch to the Premier League club was tempting and something the midfielder would have jumped at, but the move failed, and the other two clubs weren’t considered ‘attractive’ enough.
Fabio Paratici found his late transfer options at Juventus, and was able to use his good contacts at the Turin club to negotiate deals which suited everyone… that is, apart from Amrabat.
Fiorentina.it say the player should get a new chance with La Viola on Monday evening, as the club face Spezia. It’s explained he’s struggled to really find a home with the club, and that’s partly put down to his introverted character.
An injury disrupted his preseason and he’s never got going this campaign, and that’ll be partly why the Tottenham chance will have been welcome.
Now he needs to shine, and hope Conte remains a fan, and that the manager stays with the London club until the summer, when the whole transfer idea could be reignited.
