Bayern Munich’s efforts to sign Leroy Sane lead to reports in Spain suggesting Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal was identified as the winger’s potential replacement at Manchester City.

The Bavarian club ended their interest in the Germany international after he suffered an injury against Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Pep Guardiola confirmed he will be without Sane’s services for the next six to seven months and the seriousness of the injury was only confirmed after the Premier League transfer window closed on August 8th.

On deadline day, Sociedad were prepared for a possible threat from the Premier League winners for Oyarzabal.

Wednesday’s edition of AS once again claims ‘City probed’ for Oyarzabal and were willing to pay his €75m release clause to acquire his services. However, they decided against making an offer because Bayern didn’t sign Sane.

Oyarzabal has now responded to the rumours linking him with a big money move to City.

“A lot has been said and I have never said anything. My only goal is to do things well for Real,” he said.

“It seems that there have been people who had more information than me. I have my house, my friends and my family and I am happy here. These rumours that come out are not funny. But this is football, I have a clear conscience.

“My idea is to leave Real at the top and I don’t think about anything else.”
