Midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has told Napoli he wants to return to Tottenham this summer and not remain with the Italian champions.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say that Napoli had ‘recently asked him’ what his position was regarding his future.
They hold a €30m option to buy him from Tottenham this summer, with Ndombele having spent the season on loan in Naples after it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans.
However, the Frenchman’s response was ‘respectful but clear’ to this question, in that he wants to return to Tottenham this summer.
He believes he can ‘relaunch’ himself at the club after an ‘exceptional season at all levels’ and would prefer to at least try and convince Tottenham’s new manager, whoever that may be, before giving up on his time at the club completely.
That stance could change during the summer transfer window, when ‘everything can of course change’, particularly at Tottenham, where it’s unclear what is going on.
There is every chance that the new manager, and even the new director of football, will want to move Ndombele on after a disappointing spell at the club following his big money move from Lyon.
However, for now at least, Ndombele plans to return and at least try to earn himself a second chance in London.
