Stade Brestois midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou has admitted he would have stayed at Norwich City this summer if they hadn’t been relegated.
The midfielder joined the French side in a €2.3m deal this summer after just a year at Norwich following a €3.9m move from Nice last summer.
He was a regular for the Canaries across last season, making 37 appearances in all competitions and only failing to make their squad for one Premier League game, the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in December.
It proved to be another disappointing campaign for Norwich in the Premier League, though, with them managing just five wins all year and losing 26.
They also only managed to score 23 goals all season but conceded 84, meaning they finished the campaign with a goal tally of minus 61.
It was a miserable season in truth, but it seems Lees-Melou would have been happy to stay, if they hadn’t been relegated.
“Yes, it (England) was very good, it’s an experience I don’t regret at all,” he told L’Equipe.
“I wanted to go abroad, so when I got the Premier League, I didn’t hesitate because for me it was the best Championship in terms of spectacle, excitement and fans.
“I wouldn’t have minded staying in the Premier League. But we went down with Norwich, and I didn’t have any successful contacts with other top flight clubs.
“When I signed for Norwich, I know it’s a club that’s used to going up and down, so it will be difficult. But there’s fun in it, too, because I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of games.”
