Everton midfielder André Gomes is living an ‘endless nightmare’ at the club and simply ‘dreams of feeling professional again’.
That’s according to Las Provincias, who cover the former Valencia star today and his ever-dwindling career that had once looked so bright.
They explain that the Portuguese midfielder has not played an official match since May as his current injury problems mean he cannot compete with the Everton first team.
He instead finds himself playing with the reserve team trying to get fit, a big fall from grace for a player who ‘amazed the football world’ when he joined Valencia in the 2014/15 season and became ‘one of the revelations’ of La Liga.
His ‘exceptional performances’ there earned him a move to Barcelona, but he failed to live up to expectations at the club and was eventually shipped out to Everton.
He initially impressed at Goodison Park and was signed on a permanent basis, but it’s been ‘hell with injuries’ ever since, starting with that broken ankle in 2019.
That was ‘just the beginning of a nightmare’ that he continues to endure as a calf injury ruled him out under Frank Lampard and saw him eventually loaned to Lille last season.
He returned in the summer and did pre-season under Sean Dyche by ‘everything went wrong again’ and he’s been out with injuries since, and, as Dyche has revealed publically, unable to even train.
He’s now back trying to get fit with the Under 21s and now simply ‘dreams of feeling professional again’ after a rough few years of injury nightmares that have essentially ruined his time at Everton completely.
