Italy’s TuttoMercatoWeb report on Friday that Salvatore Sirigu is ‘a step away’ from signing for Chelsea, after transfer developments in the past few hours.

TMW claim that ‘sources close to the club’ have said Antonio Conte wants Sirigu in case of the departure of Asmir Begovic, with several Premier League sides interested in the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Sirigu is currently on loan at Sevilla from PSG, but is frustrated with his lack of games with the Spanish club. Any move to Chelsea would almost certainly see Sirigu continue to warm the bench, so Conte may have a hard task convincing the 30 year old.

Sevilla have a buying option over Sirigu, but at the moment it doesn’t appear the goalkeeper has a long term future at the club. His PSG contract ends in June 2018, and the Italian will likely want to find a permanent solution to his future soon.

It’s not the craziest transfer rumour, but would depend on a lot of factors. PSG, Sevilla and Sirigu himself would have to give quick approval, assuming Begovic goes anywhere.
