Newcastle United and Fulham have turned their attention to Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks of the French club’s youth system and was sent on loan to Valenciennes last season. He impressed there and that helped him make his debut for Lille’s first team in September 2022.
He’s kept nine clean sheets and conceded 19 goals from 20 matches in all competitions this season. In January, the stopper landed a new deal until 2027. He has also been under ‘special observation’ from Newcastle and Fulham.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who state the Magpies and Marco Silva’s side like the France U21 international. The two Premier League clubs continue to observe him.
Lille have a reputation of identifying talents and then selling them, something they could do with Chevalier in the near future. This could benefit Newcastle and Fulham, if they are keen to sign him.
Newcastle and Fulham added Nick Pope and Bernd Leno respectively to their squads last summer and the two are currently the first-choice goalkeepers for their clubs.
If either Eddie Howe’s side or Fulham were to sign Chevalier, he is likely to become the back-up stopper for them.
