Soon after PIF took over at Newcastle United, there were rumours the Magpies were interested in Hugo Ekitike, and Le Parisien‘s latest article suggests the player should have chosen a move to St James’ Park.
The young striker was having a great season at Stade de Reims, and the Premier League side first tried their luck in January, and came extremely close to signing him.
Eventually, the player said no, turning down Newcastle to finish the season at his club, but it all started again in the summer.
At this point, it seemed the Magpies were a bit less active, but they were still interested, only for Paris Saint-Germain to swoop in and sign him on loan with a view to buy him at €35m if they avoided relegation.
That’s a guarantee, and therefore Ekitike will be signed permanently, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stick around either.
Stories this week from Le Parisien have suggested the player might be sold, with some in Germany potentially being interested in taking the young forward off Paris Saint-Germain’s hands.
Perhaps after a poor season like this one, Newcastle could get a second chance at signing him? They would need to swallow their pride, mind, but it’s certainly something to think about.
