On May 21st, we covered claims from Austria that Brighton & Hove Albion are keen on signing VfL Wolfsburg’s Patrick Wimmer this summer. His agent, Frank Schreier, confirmed interest from the Premier League when asked about the Seagulls’ interest.
Last month, Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung and Aller Zeitung reported Brighton have a contract ready for the 24-year-old. They also stated Fabian Hürzeler is a big fan of him, indicating the manager seems to leading their pursuit.
A fresh report from AZ/WAZ provides the latest and it isn’t positive for Hürzeler and Brighton.
The Premier League club made an offer for the 24-year-old and the detail of their proposal isn’t mentioned.
It won’t matter because the report states the attacking midfielder has ‘turned down the offer’ from the English club. Wimmer wants to continue in the Bundesliga, where RB Leipzig are in the picture.
Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer joined the club in 2024, after spending six years at Wolfsburg.
Schäfer signed the Austria international for his former club and now wants to bring him to Leipzig. AZ/WAZ reports further talks are expected between the parties in the next few days.
It’s unclear whether Leipzig can sign Wimmer, but he won’t be joining Brighton.
