Olympiakos are signing Chelsea’s German attacking midfielder Marko Marin. Marin arrived in Athens and will sign a deal with Olympiakos.
Marin spent last season on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor and previously had loan spells with Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Sevilla. The 27-year old former Germany international is excited for his new adventure in the Greek SuperLeague.
The Greek football season should have started on Saturday, but has been postponed until September 5th because of security concerns.
There have been arguments between clubs, the country’s federation and others involved in the organisation of Greek football.
According to SPORT24, who picture Marin at the airport, new Olympiacos boss Paulo Bento wants Marko Marin to replace Jimmy Durmaz, the Sweden international who joined Toulouse for a fee about €2M.
Marin made 24 appearances for Trabzonspor last season, but still didn’t get to his best form.
The footballer joined Chelsea on a free transfer back in 2012 and has so far failed to reach his potential.
The Greek media are reporting a one year loan deal, taking Marin to the end of his Chelsea contract. but Marin himself told Germany’s Sport1: “It is also nice that it’s three years fixed and there are no more loans.”
Maybe they’re both right and the initial year is a loan.
