Everton fans got a fright on Thursday morning when it was reported Fiorentina were trying to snatch Orel Mangala from their clutches.
The Toffees had already agreed a loan deal with Lyon for the midfielder to move to Goodison Park for the rest of the season, but La Viola showed up and some in Italy stated the player would prefer a move to Florence.
Fiorentina wouldn’t be brushed off, and whilst earlier claims in all of Italy, France and Belgium said Everton remained the likelier destination, Mangala’s agent was said to be in contact with the Serie A side.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri now hints at the reason for that, stating that after Fiorentina had entered the picture the deal had to be looked at again from a personal terms perspective.
That would make one assume that La Viola were offering more money to the Lyon player.
Regardless, it’s all sorted and John Textor being in charge at Lyon, and wanting to take over at Everton, won’t have harmed things.
Tavolieri says Mangala will have his Everton medical on Friday.
