Finally, it would appear Arsenal and AS Roma have come to some kind of agreement over Wojciech Szczesny. A deal had originally seemed relatively straightforward for another season long loan, but then Arsenal, rightfully, asked Roma to pay all of the player’s wages.

Roma played hardball, feeling they had some leeway after signing Brazilian international goalkeeper Alisson. Still, all of Roma, Arsenal and Szczesny were keen on a deal and it looks like a compromise has been found.

Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday that the transfer (which we assume is a loan, they don’t say) is ‘substantially agreed’.

However, the talks have gone on so long that, with things not actually finalised yet, it will be ‘difficult, almost impossible’ for Szczesny to fly out on the club’s pre-seaosn tour.

Therefore, he’ll have to wait until all the paperwork is exchanged and follow Roma over to the US… as long as there’s no last minute problems.
