Even though the news about Manchester City finding a verbal agreement with Valentin Barco sounded exciting at first, we now see some obstacles getting in the way of this transfer.
Since the report about a verbal agreement came out, the Argentine media has been saying that Boca Juniors will try to hold the player by offering him a new contract.
Now according to TNT Sports, the Manchester City target is set to extend his deal with the Buenos Aires side.
Their report claims that Barco is expected to sign a new contract right after the Copa Libertadores semi-finals against Palmeiras, which take place on the 29th of September and 5th of October.
With this new deal, the fullback is set to be committed to Boca Juniors until 2028. And more importantly, his release clause would go from US$10m to US$20m.
So if Manchester City were really expecting to spend so little on his transfer, they better get prepared for tougher talks with the Argentine club. That is, in case the news is confirmed and the contract is indeed signed.
