Guilty of a few mishaps earlier on in the season, Edouard Mendy hasn’t played for Chelsea since September 3rd in a 2-1 win against West Ham in the Premier League.
Placed on the bench against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, he was also left out of the squad against RB Salzburg due to injury, but was still called up by Senegal manager Aliou Cissé for the international break.
He won’t be playing, however, as the Chelsea goalkeeper, despite being called up, travelled to Orléans in France, where his national team are preparing their first friendly, only to then head back to England on Tuesday.
This comes from Stades, relayed by Press Afrik, who explain the player only went there ‘to have his injury recorded’, which we guess includes an assessment, only for him to ‘return to London’ right after.
For Mendy, while this will be a bit of a blow, he will want to ensure he recovers fully from his knee issue as quickly as possible in order to return to Chelsea’s first-team under new manager Graham Potter ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
