You may like Jorge Mendes or not, but can’t deny how good the guy is at accumulating money.

The super agent’s connections in small and big European clubs have long been his way of making huge money on transfers, and there’s another example of his work today.

As reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Rio Ave are expected to make €4m from Fabinho’s transfer from Monaco to Liverpool, which is set to be completed once international clearance is given. Just a protocol procedure, as the midfielder belonged to the Portuguese club between 2012 and 2015.

But here comes the good part of the story: Fabinho has never played an official match for Rio Ave in his life, and added to the €6m the club made when selling him to Monaco in 2015, that’s now €10m from a player who never wore their shirt.

Here’s how it happened: Fabinho left Brazilian side Fluminense back in 2012. He was sold to Rio Ave, a club Jorge Mendes has a huge influence at, in a €500k deal.

The player didn’t even start the season with Rio Ave, as he was immediately loaned to Real Madrid Castilla. After a season at the Spanish club, he later moved to Monaco on a two-year spell.

That’s when Monaco signed the player permanently in a €6m deal, and left Rio Ave with a 8% share of a future transfer. Now with the €50m (O Jogo’s figure) transfer to Liverpool, the Portuguese side are getting €4m.

These numbers have still not been made official by Rio Ave, though, so all credits goes to O Jogo’s story.
