As returns to former clubs go, it’s fair to say that Paul Pogba’s decision to move to Juventus for a second time has been catastrophic to say the least.
The player ran down his Manchester United contract to reunite with the Turin club six yeas after he was bought by the Red Devils for €105m.
He was meant to be their saviour, and yet the past nine months have been dramatic off the pitch and terrible on it for the midfielder.
He has managed just two appearances since his Manchester United exit, and is once again injured, set to be out for at least the next two weeks, with serious questions now being asked at Juventus.
Gazzetta dello Sport cover the situation, and state the player has until the end of the season to convince the Italian club that bringing him back from Manchester United was the right move.
They state that there are then three ‘viable’ options they can choose from in the summer.
The first is ‘an act of responsibility from the player’, who could then re-discuss his contract to make it less expensive and ‘acknowledging what went wrong this year’.
The second would be for this to ‘remain in this limbo of the unsaid’, which risks ruining his relationship with the club that has ‘historically been solid and collaborative’.
And then there’s the drastic third, which is ‘to reach a sensational separation with termination of the contract’, allowing him to then have ‘an exotic experience’.
All in all, not what Pogba was expecting when he left Manchester United.
