Every time the Brazilian press speaks to Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred now, they won’t miss the opportunity to ask about his possible Manchester City move.
Yesterday, we already covered an interview from UOL which despite having the national team as the main focus, had quite a few questions about Pep Guardiola’s side.
Now as Esporte Interativo covered Shkhtar’s match against Roma in the Champions League last night, Fred was the one they spoke with right after the game.
The 24-year-old scored a beautiful free-kick goal to seal the Ukranian side’s 2-1 comeback, and couldn’t hide his smile when leaving the stadium.
So besides celebrating the result, Fred was also asked about the Manchester City talks, and he even opened up more than in UOL’s interview. This time, he’s confirmed talks between the clubs were on, but claims there’s no deal for now.
“He’s a great manager, we can’t argue with that. There have been some approaches, yes, there are some conversations. But it turned out that it did not go forward. Shakhtar preferred to keep me here right now, we have Champions League too, a great tournament.
“So I’m only focused on Shakhtar now, we have the league, we are the league leaders, I want to be a champion again, I want to get as far as possible in the Champions League. And then in the window of the middle of the year, we’ll see how will it be. But I have staff behind me who are very good, they are always updated there, I’m focused only on playing here.”
As we should recall, the Brazilian media recently claimed that Fred and Shakhtar both have deals with Manchester City for the move to happen in the summer.
