Djurgårdens IF goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström has spoken to the Swedish press about his pending move to Derby County, saying it will be a dream to play in England.
Speaking to Fotboll Sthlm, Widell Zetterström was asked about leaving the Swedish club and signing for Derby County.
“It has always been a dream to play in England and it will of course it will be incredible to do it. So, I don’t mean anything I’m saying now in a boring way. But I grew up at the club and it’s very familiar. I’ve enjoyed every day I’ve been here. At the same time, it will also be very cool to test my wings in a country that I have followed all my life,” said the Swede.
Last week Widell Zetterström confirmed he recently travelled to England to have a medical ahead of his proposed move to Pride Park.
However, with his current club midway through their season and involved in in European qualifiers he’s continued to play for the Allsvenskan club. There have been reports this week his club have an agreement to bring in his replacement and it only seems a matter of time before he arrives in England.
Derby County will reportedly be paying £2m for the player, with a possible £600k in add-ons.
He’s made 16 league appearances for his club this season and is contracted to Djurgårdens IF until June 2025.
The Stockholm born keeper made his debut for Sweden last year.
