Manchester United have allowed 11 players to leave Old Trafford permanently this summer and six of those were academy graduates.
The list includes Anthony Elanga and Dean Henderson, and the duo’s moves to Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace helped the Red Devils collect reported fees of £15m each.
Fotbollskanalen interviewed the forward, and he explained it wasn’t easy for him to leave Manchester United.
The 21-year-old joined the Premier League side’s academy in 2014 and was promoted to their first team in 2021.
He managed four goals and four assists from 55 games for their senior team, and his game time was restricted to just over 700 minutes from 26 games last season.
When asked if it was ‘emotional’ to leave Manchester United, he said: “Yes, quite. I grew up there. I was there in the academy. But I have to listen to myself now.
“It was the right step for me and now I want to develop as a player and a person. Now I’m just happy and want to develop as a player and I have a good coach who can help me a lot. Now I just want to show what I can do and score more goals and assists.”
The Sweden international spent close to a decade at Manchester United and is living away from his family since leaving Old Trafford. He has explained how leaving Manchester has been ‘difficult’ from a personal point of view.
“Moving away from the family. I’ve lived by myself before, but it’s the first time that I’m living by myself now. But the family lives only an hour away from me and can therefore come and see me at any time,” the Swede explained.
“I was in Manchester for nine years so moving to another city was not easy. That was what was difficult in the beginning.”
The attacker has clocked in 175 minutes from four games this season for his new club.
