KV Kortrijk forward Pape Habib Gueye has revealed Watford were keen on him last season, before injury curtailed the move.
The striker was in fine form for the Belgian side last season, with six goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
All of those goals arrived before the beginning of December and that form earned him the attention of Watford, who were then keen to make signings in January to aid heir battle against relegation.
Het Laatste Nieuws reported at the beginning of the January transfer window that Watford were ‘in the frame’ as they looked to give then manager Claudio Ranieri a boost.
He was already injured at that point, and it wasn’t made clear whether the move was intended for that month or for in the summer.
It never happened either way, with Gueye spending the rest of the season out with that same meniscal injury and Watford suffering relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
The striker has now spoken on their interest, which seemed to be rather serious, but he hopes to be back at that level again sooner rather than later.
“Watford indeed showed great interest and a lot of other teams were also interested. I hope to find that form from back then soon,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
