Radu Drăgușin and Timo Werner were the two players to arrive at Tottenham Hotspur in the winter market.

Spurs took the forward on a loan deal from RB Leipzig, and he was initially reluctant to join them.

The 27-year-old revealed this during a chat with Sky Deutschland, and journalist Florian Plettenberg relayed his quotes on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Werner had lost prominence at the Bundesliga side this season as he clocked in 386 minutes from 14 games, managing two goals and an assist in the process.

This saw Tottenham make an approach but his initial desire was to still succeed at Leipzig. The Germany international has now explained how Spurs managed to change his stance.

“In the end, it happened very quickly. Two to three weeks earlier, Tottenham had already contacted me. But I never responded because I thought I could achieve something at Leipzig over the winter,” he said.

“The more the interest grew and the more often Tottenham contacted my agents, it became so interesting that in the end, I couldn’t say ‘no’ anymore.”

Werner already has two assists from five games for Tottenham and is currently enjoying life at the north London club.

Earlier this week, SportBild reported Leipzig are expecting Ange Postecoglou’s side to pay €20m to buy him in the summer, meaning his stay in north London could last far longer than the initial six months he was contracted to.
