Rennes defender Lovro Majer has revealed the message he sent to former teammate Nayef Aguerd following his move to West Ham United.
Aguerd joined the Hammers in a €35m deal from Rennes in the summer as David Moyes looked to bolster a backline that had been struck by injuries last season.
He is yet to make his Premier League debut for West Ham, though, having featured in just the Europa Conference League and EFL Cup.
That is as a result of missing the start of the season through an ankle injury that has seen him miss 98 days of the season and 19 games so far.
It’s been a major blow for the 26-year-old, who would have been hoping to arrive at the London Stadium and hit the ground running to establish himself at his new club.
He now faces a fight to get into the team, particularly after the arrival of Thilo Kehrer, but it seems his former teammate has provided some sage advice.
“Nayef is an incredible player, he is also a very good friend,” Majer told Stade Rennais Online.
“Like me, he was unlucky when he arrived at West Ham, he got injured.
“Now he’s fine, I told him straight away not to worry, that I had the same thing at Rennes and that afterwards everything had been perfect. I’m happy to see him.”
