Even though Benfica are hopeful that Wolverhampton Wanderers are keeping Raul Jimenez after his loan spell in the Premier League, the Eagles are still working on his future in case things don’t go as planned.
On Friday, in a public offer documentation sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, the Lisbon club revealed that they renewed the striker’s contract for one further year.
Benfica hadn’t announced this new deal, and only did it only as an obligation now. Jimenez’s contract was expiring in 2020, but has now been changed to 2021.
That means that in case he returns from his loan spell at Wolves, Benfica won’t find themselves in a fragile position with the player having only one year of contract left.
Wolves have paid €3m to have Jimenez on a one-year loan deal, and will have a buying option to get the player for €38m more at the end of the season.
