Newcastle United are considering re-entering the race for Cologne star Saïd El Mala, with the 19-year-old telling teammates a move to the Premier League is likely.
Sport BILD report on the winger today, and the growing acceptance in Cologne that he’ll be on the move this summer.
Newcastle consider new attempt
According to the German magazine Saïd El Mala has been telling teammates that a club is now willing to pay the €50m required to sign him this summer. That is believed to be Brentford. They have stepped ahead of Brighton in the race.
But there could be another twist in the tale. Newcastle are not out of the running just yet, having been interested for a few months.
According to SportBILD, they are also considering re-entering the biding for the winger. That’s despite them already receiving a no from his mother, who now works as his agent.
The belief is that the last few weeks have shown that such a rejection might not be as final as it seemed at first. The player and his mother, Sabrina, have seemingly flip flopped between decisions over his future, bouncing between clubs and various agreements.
Therefore, Newcastle might still have a chance of changing his mind. They were certainly convinced by his latest Premier League audition against Bayern Munich.
Premier League audition
Although Cologne lost that game 5-1, his goal caught the eye of watching scouts. He intercepted the ball in his own half, shook off several Bayern stars and then crowned a 60-metre solo run with the goal to make it 1-2.
It was a sign of his talent, something he’s been doing all season. And as a Premier League audition it ‘couldn’t have been better’. Now English clubs are circling. They’re ready to meet Cologne’s demands and get a deal over the line.
Newcastle United could be a part of that, despite the earlier rejection. Cologne would certainly welcome a second attempt. They’re aiming for a bidding war and as much money as possible from a sale this summer.
